I understand how difficult it can be to walk into a strangers office to talk about your most personal thoughts, feelings, and issues. It takes courage. I have a lot of respect for anyone who makes the decision to seek outside help in the hopes of improving some aspect of their life. With the goal of making counseling as easy as possible for people, I like to keep things informal and casual. I want the people who come to see me to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
I graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee Wisconsin with a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science/Psychology, and received my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Marquette University.
Since my university years, I have undergone extensive training in Solution-Focused Therapy and trauma treatment. I was very fortunate to receive my instruction and ongoing consultation in Solution-Focused Therapy from Eve Lipchik, one of the original core members of the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee Wisconsin; the creators of Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
I have also gone through formal training in EMDR from the EMDR Institute, founded by Dr Francine Shapiro. EMDR is a validated psychotherapy treatment method that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of disturbing life experiences. It is particularly helpful for PTSD.
Overall, I want to provide people with support, practical feedback, and solutions. Every person and every situation is different, therefore I feel the best course of action is to use a personalized approach when helping people. After 13 years of experience working with individuals, children and families, I have come to believe that there is no 'best' technique or model of treatment that works with every person and every situation. Together we can figure out what will work best for you within your comfort level.
