I understand how difficult it can be to walk into a strangers office to talk about your most personal thoughts, feelings, and struggles. I have a lot of respect for anyone who makes the decision to seek outside help in the hopes of improving some aspect of their life. With the goal of making counseling as easy as possible for people, I like to keep things informal and casual. I want the people who come to see me to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
I graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee Wisconsin with a Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science/Psychology, and received my Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from Marquette University.
Since my university years, I have undergone extensive training in Solution-Focused Therapy and trauma treatment. I was very fortunate to receive my instruction and ongoing consultation in Solution-Focused Therapy from Eve Lipchik, one of the original core members of the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee Wisconsin; the creators of Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
I have also undergone years of training in trauma treatment, and formal training in EMDR from the EMDR Institute, founded by Dr Francine Shapiro. EMDR is a validated psychotherapy treatment method that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are a result of disturbing life experiences. It is particularly helpful for PTSD.
I have spent the last 14 years working in various settings which have included community and private clinics. In 2011, I went into private practice. It was at this time that I was able to work with more freedom to deliver the kinds of services I knew to be effective. Over the years I have worked with many different client issues, some of which have been quite significant, including a number of high profile cases.
Overall, I want to provide people with support, solutions and resolution to current issues, and practical feedback. Every person and every situation is different, therefore I feel the best course of action is to use a personalized approach when helping people. After working with many different individuals, children and families over the years, I have come to believe that there is no 'best' technique or model of treatment that works with every person and every situation. It is a matter of figuring out what will work best for you.
